Description: Erroll Louis Garner (1921-1077) was an iconic American jazz pianist and composer noted for his swing playing and memorable ballads. His instrumental ballad "Misty" is his best known composition and a longtime jazz standard. He had a distinctive keyboard style and he was a brilliant piano virtuoso. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was primarily self-taught and never learned to read music. He was quite short (5', 2") and had to use several telephone directories on his piano bench in order to play. Though not a bebop artist, he played with Charlie Parker in New York in the 1940's. He was somewhat prohibited from playing because the New York Musician's Union would not issue him a union card because he could not read music. After establishing himself as a top notch pianist, he received an "honorary" union card in 1956. He died of cardiac arrest related to emphysema in 1977 at the age of 55. The item for sale is a 10" vinyl long playing record in it original cover. The record number is Savoy MG-15000-A. The album is inscribed and signed "Best Regards, Erroll Garner" in ball point pen. List of songs can be found in photo 3. Cover and vinyl appear to be in good condition. Signature is fine. There is no inner sleeve for the record. This is a rare recording from 1949 and the autograph on the front makes it very collectable. The item is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity (photo 4). This is another sample from my extensive collection of autographed record albums which I am slowly selling off.
