Byron portrays Don Juan has a man easily seduced by women, rather than a womaniser. The character, but not the plot, is taken from the legendary Spanish libertine figure.Byron's poem is written in ottava rima across sixteen cantos. Upon the publication of the first cantos in 1819 the poem was criticized as immoral.Bookplate of Robert Cassidy to the front paste down. CONDITION In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Front joint is a little cracked. Some light rubbing to the boards and spine, with just a few light marks to the boards and spine. Head of the spine is lifting a little. Minor bumping to the extremities. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some spots, heavier to the first and last few pages. Small patch of worming to the front paste down, front endpaper, title page, and to all pages until page 141, becoming much smaller from page 3.
