Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce fictional piece purportedly about Stiya, a Pueblo girl housed at the Carlisle Indian School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, who returns home and resists her old culture in favor of Western ones. However, the book was actually written by teacher Marianna Burgess (1854-1931), who used the name of Stiya and frontispiece photograph of two different Native American girls to act as a Native American author, which led to inaccurate and offensive portrayals of Pueblo life. A wonderful piece for restoration. FORN-ABE-MSB-1223-Shelf-742-aj0211
