The obelisk was inscribed by Thutmose III and Ramesses II, being moved to Alexandria in 12BC, where it remained for 1,800 years, after which it was presented to the U.K. by the ruler of Egypt and Sudan to celebrate the military victories of Lord Nelson and Sir Ralph Abercromby. CONDITION In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Gilt to the front board has faded. Spine is a little faded. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Light rubbing to the spine. A few minor marks to the boards. Spots to the fore edge. Bookplate to the front paste down. Marks to the front paste down and recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots.
