Description: This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. Dixie Ice Cream had one of the longest-running and most successful non-sports promotions in history. From 1933 to 1954, they offered photos of popular movie stars on the inside lids to their single serve cups of ice cream. In all but the final year, you could save up enough lids to send in and you'd get a large color photos, printed on heavy paper stock, of your favorite star. The premiums came with two holes pre-punched along the side (1935-1945) or along the top (1946-1953), so you could put them in a special album the company also offered. There were twenty four different actors available each year from 1933 to 1953, all but the first two years in color. It makes for quite a challenge to collect the complete set!! This photo is from 1937, and the premiums were produced that year in the 8 x 10 size that was the standard. The backs of the premiums featured photos and write-ups of the actor's recent and current movies. This one features legendary actor Clark Gable; it's in nice shape with a few flaws, including a tear and an extra hole punched into the side border, a closed pinhole at the top, and the original owner's name written on the back lightly in pencil (see scans for condition).
