President Harding Shown Above Saves Crew Members This is an original press photo. New York City.....The master of the S.S. President Harding, Captain James E. Roberts, advised the U.S. lines today that the liner (pictured above) had gone to the rescue of a French tanker in the Atlantic and enroute had saved 36 members of the crew of the British Steamer Heronspool. President Harding (L) left Le Verdon, France on Oct. 11th, bound for NY where she is due on Oct 18th. She carried about 400 passengers, mostly Americans fleeing the war zones. The liner has a registered tonnage of 13,869, and is 516-feet in length. Photo measures 9 x 7.25inches. Photo is dated 10-13-1939.
