1943 S Washington Quarter "Goiter" FS-401 UNC Wheel Mark Silver Variety Coin 25C

Description: This is a 1943-S (San Francisco) Washington Silver Quarter "Goiter" FS-401 in Uncirculated Details Condition. This is a Variety type coin that can be found in the Cherrypickers' Guide and recognized by CONECA. The "Goiter" variety is defined by the damage to an obverse die resulting in what looks like swelling in Washington's neck and jaw, as well as a bit of distortion to the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST. It is a tougher variety to locate and unfortunately this coin looks to have a wheel mark across the forehead/mid-hair of Washington that pops up when the coin tilts at certain angles. These are not to be confused with die lines that are naturally on the coin. There are a couple little tone specs on the obverse and one on the reverse that looks a little grayish and faded. The coin was removed from an old Dansco album.
