1984 Pairpoint Glass Cup Plate, Old Four Corners, New Bedford, Blue, Signed Box

Description: Old Four Corners Fourth in a Series of Historic New Bedford Landmarks New Bedford Preservation Society Centre Street Summer Festival Pairpoint Glass Company Signed by the Designer Up for auction is a vintage 1984 crystal glass cup plate, with an individually hand-pressed image of buildings at "Old Four Corners" in the center. The diameter of the round, marina blue cup plate measures approximately 3.5 inches across. This is an official New Bedford Preservation Society Centre Street Summer Festival cup plate, of a limited edition of 2000 plates, and is the fourth in a series of historic New Bedford landmarks. It was designed by New Bedford artist Evelyn Ramalhete, and derived from a pair of paintings by William Allen Wall, of the view of Union Street (then Main Street) as seen from the southwest corner of Water Street, located in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The collectible piece was made by the Pairpoint Glass Company, in Sagamore, on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Included with the cup plate is the original Pairpoint Glass Company sticker; the original informational card, printed on off-white card stock; and the original card board box packaging with cotton batting. The back of the informational card has been signed by the designer of the cup plate. Cup plates were widely used in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Hot tea was served in handleless cups and poured into saucers to cool. Tea was drunk from the saucer while the cup was place on a cup plate to protect the table. The cup plate is in virtually mint condition, with no cracks, chips, scratches, stains, discoloration, repairs nor any other damage that I can detect. The box is in near mint condition as well. However, the informational card may have some slight warping to the card stock. At this time I am selling a large collection of similar Pairpoint Glass Company Cup Plates, and will combine shipping for multiple purchases.
