Description: 1989 Pro Set Football DAVID TREADWELL BRONCOS PROOF/ERROR CARD! DON GRIFFIN BACK! Condition overall is spectacular NM/MINT! I purchased these remaining gold 49ers and silver Broncos cards after Super Bowl 24 at the Super Dome in New Orleans in early 1990. The GTE 40-card binders were stuffed in a room in the basement of the Super Dome the day before, and the day of Super Bowl 24. I got in touch with the young Boy Scout who was in charge of getting together his fellow Scouts to “volunteer” for the occasion. (Of course, they got to stay and see the game, so why not?) He was given the remaining unused cards (six monster boxes) as a “thank you,” and I gave him enough to buy a car for the lot. There were lots of cool proof/error variants in the lot, since it was a 2-week rush job, and they were being comped and printed at the same time as the Final Edition Rookie/Traded set. Apparently some of the proof sheets were used for both efforts, resulting in very cool hybrid wrong front and wrong back variants. Some of these sheets obviously made it through the cutting process and were sent to New Orleans, inadvertently creating a bonanza for collectors of such items. I’ve sold just a small handful of these over the years, but now, over 30 years later, I’m digging out some of the real jewels and making them available to collectors.
