Contemporary Cuban Art Cuba -1950 • Title: Caguayo X • Technique: Serigraphy / Paper. 22 / 100 • Size: 10 x 7 inches. • Executed: 2005 • Signed: Lescay PROVENANCE Private collection, Havana. Acquired from the original owner by the current owner. Alberto Lescay is a Cuban sculptor, painter, and draftsman. He graduated from the Repin Academy in St. Petersburg. He is the founder of the Youth Column of Writers and Artists of Oriente. Sculpture has been one of the mediums in which he has achieved great success throughout his career. One of his most well-known pieces is the statue of Maceo, located in the Plaza de la Revolución in Santiago de Cuba. In 1995, he and a group of sculptors initiated the experience of the Caguayo Foundation, which currently organizes sculpture events in its venues in Las Tunas, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba, and Havana. One of Lescay's distinctive features is the use of history in the themes of his works, as well as indirect or direct references to the Latin American ideology that has influenced both his sculptural and plastic art. His painting is currently characterized by postmodernism, with abstract elements in the backgrounds and the superposition of brushstrokes, contrasting with the figurative tradition left by his training at the Academy. His discourse draws inspiration from elements of Afro-Cuban cultures and incorporates a graphic style influenced by the work of Lam. ALBERTO LESCAY. Grabado. Serigrafia / Papel. Arte Cubano Contemporáneo Cuba -1950 • Título: Caguayo X • Técnica: serigrafia / Papel. 22 / 100 • Medida: 10 x 7 pulgadas. • Ejecutado: 2005 • Firmado: Lescay PROVENANCE Colección privada, Habana.
