Description: Please Be Sure to Read Info on Shipping Below!! * Offered is a small collection of Alcoholic Anonymous-related items direct from the family of their owner, Glenn Smith, a known AA Activist/Mentor across six decades, who played an integral role in the spread of the organization into New England, specifically the States of New Hampshire & Maine. Glenn was a founding member of the Southeastern New Hampshire Services and helped expand what began as two AA meetings into eighty-five (85). He was long revered and trusted in the region for the help given and secrets held, being the embodiment of the tradition that has allowed AA to flourish and help so many from all walks of life for almost a century. Included in the collection: "Glenn's Special Copy" (taped on spine) of the AA Big Book, Second Ed, 4th printing from 1960 in Original (Blue) Dust Jacket which also happens to be a Presentation Copy inscribed on the front free endpaper by Bill Wilson dated April 1962 with additional signatures / greetings of "Dr Jack" ( John L) Norris who at the time of the signing was Medical Director of Eastman Kodak and AA Trustee. (prior to, just a few years later, his becoming Chairman of the AA Board); Allan Bachman of Stamford, CT. There's also a salutation "Hail Campanero! With all the Best from Herb Morse." (?). I have learned that both Allan and Herb were Class B Trustees and that Herb also became a General Service Office Manager. Condition: Original Dustjacket in rough condition .... it is split at spine with wear to inner flaps. (Given it is otherwise a beautiful presentation copy, a mylar cover and/or reproduction DJ is in order.) Book in Good Condition. Cloth covered boards with impressed Alcoholics Anonymous on front cover clean, if a bit faded. Red stamped lettering at spine exhibits fading. "Glenn's Special Copy" is affixed to spine. Text block sound and square. Edges tight. Some age soil. Some age tanning to endpapers. Interior, with exception of ffe signatures (front and back as per picture #s 2,3) devoid of markings. A personal typewritten letter from Bill Wilson responding to Glenn's thank-you for the Presentation Copy dated and signed "Ever devotedly, Bill Wilson" June 18, 1962; includes cover. Condition: Letter with cover fully intact, no defects other than an age toned surround to stationery edges and along envelope edges. A faint impression of the envelope (cover) that was folded inside the letter can be seen on the letter. A First Edition, 13th printing (February 1950) of The AA Big Book with Original "Circus" Dust Jacket. Condition: As with the presentation copy, the Dust Jacket shows wear .... there are scattered closed tears and interior of DJ shows tape repairs. Book (the darker of the two copies pictured) in VG/Exc condition .... blue cloth covered boards clean w/ good color, front and back. Slightest of wear to stress points - edges, corners, spine tips. Gilt stamping to spine intact and bright. Interior clean w/ no marks. A very nice copy. Dr Bob and the Good Oldtimers (2000 18th printing by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.) is the biography of AA co-founder Bob S, an ill and drunk physician .... it would be with his last drink that the AA Fellowship would begin. It contains recollections of early AA in the Midwest. Condition: Book w/ DJ in Good condition. Name "Glenn" in faded marker on cover. Otherwise, no markings. Shortly before his death at 89 in 2007, Glenn was presented with his 60-Year Sobriety Chip Medallion .... it is encased in a desk display into which the motto, 'One Day At A Time" was incised. Also included is Glenn's 56-Year Chip Medallion, mini "50 Year" Plaque presented which is engraved "Glenn. Congratulations On Your 50th. Peace & Love From All.", and AA Circle & Triangle Lapel Pin. Condition: All immediately above-referenced items in Excellent condition. See last pic. Early AA was a Christian Fellowship, God centered .... where members surrendered their lives and recovery to Jesus Christ. Bible reading and study were part of the program. Above items are contained in the "Fellowship in Christ" Book/Bible Holder in which the books were kept by Glenn. Condition: Soft-sided case in Good condition .... No rips or tears to cover. Zipper works. Embroidered image, which portrays individuals (black/gray/white threads) with linked hands in a circle (symbolizing unity) on cover, together with the words "Fellowship in Christ" fully intact. Case overall exhibits age and shows appropriate amount of soiling. A Letter of Provenance will be provided to purchaser from the a family member and the party in whose custody the collection has been kept since Glenn Smith's death. An Impeccable Chronology of Custody aside, as an auctioneer and bookseller of many decades, I have seen Bill Wilson's distinctive signature numerous times. Both inscription and letter carry bona fide signatures. A copy of article published at the time of Glenn's 2007 passing will also be included. Domestic Shipping for this collection will be USPS Priority Mail (Medium Flat Rate Box) to include Tracking and USPS Insurance for the Full Value of the Purchase. The cost of insurance is the bulk of the shipping price quoted. If purchaser does checkout prior to being invoiced post-sale without having paid for insurance, the item will be retained. The collection will not be shipped without insurance having been paid. The only other alternative is local pick-up. Check out our other offerings. Happy to combine shipping where able. We also do have tens of thousands of cards from the Curt Teich Archives and will be listing them as well as tens of thousands of others ... all types and locales. Many are categorized. If you're looking for a certain topic, let us know. Selling on eBay as early as 1997. "The Mermaid" is also still a bonded auctioneer and real estate broker who spent the past "many" decades' specializing in books, ephemera, estates, and real estate. Just shy of two million books sold to date. Books and paper aside, if it is "Stuff", she has sold it! She has now returned to eBay. Health issues have brought us back. We are even selling our own collections! And ... we are picky. If we wouldn't add it to our own collections, we won't sell it. Hope you find something that you want, need, and, most important of all, will enjoy! We look forward to transacting with you and making new eBay friends and customers. Thanking you for your patronage in advance ... ! As to our "standard operating procedures": Our normal shipping & handling time is three (3) days. We ship weekdays with the exception of US federal holidays. We will ship with either free shipping or calculated shipping ... it depends on the given scenario. Often, calculated shipping will include insurance - again, depending on the item. Payment is expected at time of purchase or close of auction, whichever is applicable. This also applies to "best offer accepted" transactions. Non-paying purchasers or bidders will be blocked from future transactions. The same goes for winning bidders seeking to have sales cancelled. That said, prior to the end of any auctions, bids can be cancelled through the HELP section of eBay. If respective bidders are found to be cancelling bids in an excessive manner, however, they will be blocked from future transactions. Shill bidding is not tolerated and will be reported. "The Mermaid" is happy to ship globally.** (See below.) For such transactions, "calculated" shipping fees apply and Insurance will be required if not already included in applicable postal fee. **Unfortunately, there are a few destinations to which we cannot and will not ship. That circumstance involves a fluid dynamic the specifics of which may not be clear until point of sale. If such is the case, we will allow the transaction to be cancelled at our discretion and without any negative reporting made to eBay. WE ARE GLAD TO BE BACK!
