Description: Free eBay listing template designed by dewiso.com Antique 1864 Tiffany & Co Solid Brass Inkwell w/ Hinged Lids & Dragon Handles This is a listing for a beautiful (and extraordinarily large) 19th century Tiffany & Co. solid brass inkwell with interlacing acanthus leaves and dragon head reliefs. Please note that the full dimensions and weight can be found below. Marked "Depose 64", Tiffany & Co. produced a small number of these inkwells in and around 1864 for sale in both the United States and France. This specific inkwell is not Tiffany stamped, and is either the first or one of the first prototype exports of this cast that was intended for the French market. Later casts bore a small "Tiffany & Co." stamp located near the ventral edge. You can find an example of these later stamped Tiffany inkwells by navigating to eBay seller "1618watch", specifically their "Tiffany&co Inkwell" listing. Stamp aside, the later Tiffany casts were entirely identical. Every curve, bend, and leaf. There are only a handful of these Tiffany inkwells currently available on the world market, with this inkwell having been in the Dickson family for many generations. I'm told that it was gifted to my great, great grandfather, Weldon Dickson. We have not polished this inkwell or removed any of its natural tarnish. Both inkwell hinges are in superb condition, with a full and smooth range of movement. This piece is in fantastic condition given its age (~160 years) and size. All of the metalwork is intact, and there is little to no evidence of wear around the leaves, faces, scrolls, and handles. The original glass verrines are missing, as is one of the interior ovoid receptacles for the rightmost verrine. A small amount of transparent adhesive can be seen on the underside of the piece, preventing the brass thumb screws from being unthreaded. This adhesive is presumably removable, and I suspect (but am not certain) that it was applied to prevent tiny hands from removing the screws responsible for holding the topside receptacles in place. Due to its age and historical value, the inkwell will be wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap and padding before shipment. All four corners of the box will be reinforced for good measure. This inkwell will be shipped same-day if the order is placed before 2:00 PM central time. Orders placed after that time are shipped the very next morning.
