The Bavarian village of Oberammergau is world famous for its Passion Play performances. First performed in 1634, the Oberammergauer Passionsspiele celebrated the end of the bubonic plague that devastated Bavaria during the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648). The play is performed in every ten years and the year 1934 was the 300th anniversary of the production, and the first one since Adolf Hitler had become Chancellor of Nazi Germany. From 1634 to 1674, it was performed in years ending in 4. Since 1680, it has been performed in years ending in the digit zero. Few people outside Germany know that the small picturesque alpine village is also a winter sport destination. This heavily illustrated 8 x 8-¼ inch, 8-page German language brochure highlights the wonderful ski slopes and cross country trails, comfortable accommodations, cozy places to eat and drink as well as entertainment. There is also a double-page spread on the local woodcarving industry. The blue color map in the center of the brochure shows marked and unmarked ski areas, alpine huts with and without services, areas known for avalanche danger, First Aid stations, as well as the length of different ski tours. The photos in this approximately 90 year old Oberammergau im Winter brochure are by Kronburger of Oberammergau, the cover art is by Hermann Keimel and the copperplate printing was done by Carl Lipp & Co. of Munich. It is undated but on a German website for travel brochures it was shown as circa 1934. The phone number for the Tourist Office of Oberammergau was 700!
