Description: Beautiful antique alabaster sculpture of Dante, in full Dante Alighieri, (born c. May 21–June 20, 1265, Florence [Italy]—died September 13/14, 1321, Ravenna), Italian poet, prose writer, literary theorist, moral philosopher, and political thinker. He is best known for the monumental epic poem La commedia, later named La divina commedia (The Divine Comedy), a masterpiece of world literature. Small scale sculpture by Fritz Kochendorfer (1871-1942) Osterode, Germany. Produced I believe late 19th Century with Dante's profile emerging against rough cut stone. Marked on the bottom with Kochendorfer shield stating Original Kochendorfer, Med. F Kunst. Muchen 1891, Shutzmarke ges. gesch. Some residue on the base from old green felt as shown. Numbers etched in the base as shown. Very nice antique condition, wear consistent with age. Approx measurements are 7 1/4" tall x 6" wide.
