Description: Antique French-made Breche Violette Louis XVI Style Oval Center Table Stamped: Made in France Good condition. It is not the original gilt finish, it has been repainted and is tarnished in a few areas. Minor wear commensurate with use and age. 31 in x 24 in top & 25 in high. Purchased by my great-grandmother and great-grandfather, a railroad baron, around 1920. Stamped for export: MADE IN FRANCE. *The stamp is not done with ink but is the type of stamp that is cut into the wood - so it is difficult to see in the photo with the flash (see last photo for a side by side of the stamp with and without the flash.) they used this type of stamp until approximately the 1940s and it wasn’t only used on new pieces, they also used the stamp on antiques, any piece leaving the country had to have the stamp.
