Antique Victorian 1890s Black and Yellow Silk Satin Day Dress

Description: This antique Victorian day dress is a perfect example of the fashion of 1892's leg o' mutton sleeves! It is made of black patterned silk and yellow silk. The bodice has a hidden closure at the center front that closes with hooks and eyes. The yellow silk plastron covers that front opening. It is sewn on the right hand side, goes over the center front, and the top point of the plastron attached with hook and eyes at the shoulder by the neck. There are no hooks and eyes that attach the left side of the plastron on long lappeted collar, so I assume it was attached by safety pins or silk pins. That is how I attached it on the mannequin. I tried to capture how the bodice is done up in the photos. It is lined in black cotton, is boned with steel bones and has one dress shield at the left armpit. It is beautifully constructed! The skirt is lined with black cotton and the hem has another layer of lining to aid in its structure. There is some shattering of the yellow silk at the sleeve hem, and some staining and shattering on the skirt, but not enough to really detract from its awesomeness.
