Lynn was intrigued by the idea of designing jewelry because, he says, “most people don’t get to see what I do or wear what I do.” But Nadja’s invitation didn’t come without its challenges. Lynn started by sending her sketches, creating a family of forms based on the shapes and colors of the crystals themselves, and then began to make digital models of the pieces. “I’m never surprised by anything in terms of scale,” Lynn explains, “but the scale of the jewelry was really whacked on the first round. It looks much bigger on the screen in the computer models I made. It took three rounds to just get the scale right.” Lynn made all the prototypes in his studio, keeping practical issues like the weight of an earring in mind as he worked.
