Description: Wonderful antique/vintage Austrian art deco painted wood dimensional elephant belt buckle. This buckle is in excellent condition with no damage other than minor surface wear. It is 4 7/8” wide., altogether, by 1 1/2” high and weighs 34.8 grams. I acquired this piece at an estate sale in the midwestern U.S. and was told that it was from the early 1900’s. It could be, but it could be a bit later. It is made of solid, painted wood and has lots of dimension and detail. It has a metal buckle that is screwed into the wood. I believe that the belt would attach at the space on each side between the curved trunk and the tusk.
