Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-CA X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Offered here is a pictorial account in multiple languages focussed on the history of the Berlin Wall from 1961 to 1980. The Berlin Wall fell on November 9, 1989. It was assembled by Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt the German anti-communist resistance fighter, historian and founder of the Checkpoint Charlie Museum. He was involved in the resistance to the communist regime of the Soviet occupation zone since the 1940s, as a member of the Kampfgruppe gegen Unmenschlichkeit. This is a photo-documentation of the blockade around West Berlin, its development since August 13th, 1961 including the most important events. It is profusely illustrated with 168 dramatic black and white photographs chronicling of the first days of the blockade and the beginning of the building of the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie as well as East Berlin people jumping out of buildings into jumping sheets on the West side, East German soldiers and construction crews demolishing houses in the border area to clear the view and fireline at the wall, armed soldiers guarding the wall, busses stuck during attempts to break through the wall, and various photographs of demonstrations and attempts to flee to West Berlin. There are also photographs of Khrushchev and President Kennedy visiting the wall, people shot at the wall and being carried back to East Berlin by soldiers, and East German soldiers escaping to West Berlin. It is a profound documentation of the history of one of the most dreadful tools employed in the cold war. The text is in German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish. Cover title reads: Es geschah an der Mauer; It Happened at the Wall. Cela s'est passé au Mur. Sucediò en el Muro. É accaduto al Muro. Eine Bilddokumentation des Sperrgürtels um Berlin (West), seine Entwicklung von "13. August" 1961 bis heute mit den wichtigsten Geschehnissen. This 113 page, 9 ½ by 7 inch softcover is in fairly good condition. The pages are clear and the binding is tight.
