Description: Vintage art deco English china, a large rectangular plate fully stamped to the base bottom with the printed mark, “The Biarritz, Royal Staffordshire, Great Britain, Reg’d No. 784849” (also an impressed mark in the ceramic I can’t make out) - dating it to 1933. A large plate with a beautiful springtime floral design of butterflies (butterfly maybe moth?) orange four-petal flowers, green leaves with a solid green border on left and right sides. A very attractive and unusual made in England plate - does have chips to two bottom corners only really be seen when upside down, with one appearing considerably newer than the other. A few surface scuffs inside the bowl. Crazing. As you can see from photos this doesn’t detract from display value. This impressive and hard to find piece of Biarritz is a very desirable item you’ll want in your collection. Measures approx 10 ½ inches by 8 ½ inches. Purchased from a California estate auction. As-is. Please ask questions. This mark (“The Biarritz” Royal Staffordshire and crown symbol) with the registration number of 784849 was first used in 1933 to protect the patent design of the square and rectangular based dinnerware, known as the Biarritz line.
