Description: Austria Bohemia Porcelain Vase Ewer JS Josef Strnact 1918 Lovely colors This is a pretty elegant pitcher. It has a nice shape and is decorated with lovely pastel colors and with great gold accents. Antique tapered pitcher or cruet. Made by Josef Strnact - Judging by the backstamp it was made pre-1918. Size: (cat #36.) This vase measures approximately 8" tall. Very similar in style to the floral vases of Stellmacher Habsburg Ware Austria by Alfred Stellmacher Imperial & Royal Porcellain Manufactory, Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire Description: This beautiful early Amphora style pitcher is hand painted in a pretty floral design over a light pinkish cream matte finish. The pitcher itself features flowers, scrollwork and attractive ornate handle with Rococo design. The artist chose for the front, beautiful florals as the main design, showing the various flowers in yellow, lilac, and shades of greens, accenting in gold. The colors of the flowers, and the stylized handles are lovely with pale colored flowers on back. Gold is effectively used for highlighted accents throughout the design. The basic portrait of this vase is beautiful with gild creating interesting shadows. Condition: Very good condition for its age- no chips, no cracks. Slight wear to gold gilt. Maker: Stamped on the bottom with the Josef Strnact logo - JS over a flower with a crown on top. Made in Austria written in red ink. Also impressed with the numbers 70 and 46, 45. Great example of Bohemia art. Founded by Josef Strnact junior in 1881 the terracotta, majolica and faience factory in the former Austrian town of Turn-Teplitz was an instant success because of its wide product range. It included faience and majolica vases, garden pieces like flowerpots and pillars, umbrella stands, tobacco jars, mantel clock casings. Strnact opened a subsidiary in Geisingen in the year 1902 which was named 'Terracotta-, Majolica- und Fayencefabrik Strnact Junior'. To cope with the rising demand, Strnact purchased the ceramic factory of Anton Heller in Turn-Teplitz in 1909 and up to 1910 his factories there alone employed over 300 people. This Amphora style ewer, beautifully painted and gilded with a decoration, is very rich and elegant . The various elements outlined in gold pronounced relief would make a handsome one for your collection. VISIT MY EBAY SHOP FOR MORE ANTIQUES. Visit My eBay Store: Deep South Vintage Antiques
