Description: American Sunday School Union of Philadelphia published THE YOUNG SOLDIER (XI Series, No. 1104) circa 1846, according to the handwritten provenance on the gift inscription affixed to the underside of the front wrap (Frames 2 & 3 of our gallery). The string-bound pamphlet measures 3-3/4" x 5-3/4" and consumes 54 pages with a frontispiece. This piece comes from an estate in Los Angeles that offered much evidence of roots in Pennsylvania. The recipient of the booklet, John Martin, apparently attended Wentz's Church, likely the one located in Worcester, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Condition: String binding holding very soundly. Pamphlet remarkably well preserved for an antique softcover. Text clean and unmarked; provenance in the form of a dated gift inscription affixed to the underside of the front wrap. The paper spine shows loss top and bottom. Moderate foxing throughout.
