Description: Presented is a wonderful antique American sterling silver dessert set from around the 1860s, by J.E. Caldwell & Co. the set consists of a serving spoon and twelve smaller spoons, great for a variety of desserts. The bowls have a rich gold wash, so the silver will not be affected by things like acid from fruit or the like. The handles are superbly hand engraved with bright cut decoration and elegant shell designs to the tips, while the serving spoon's body features particularly ornate foliate scrollwork. revealing the bright silver beneath the gold wash for an appealing two tone effect. This set comes in its original fitted storage case. This set is in excellent condition. The designs are nice and crisp and the gold wash is in great shape. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The fitted storage case has noticeable wear particularly to the exterior, but it is original to the set and has done a great job of protecting and storing the silver. Each piece is marked J.E. Caldwell & Co as well as 925 for sterling silver. The interior of the box is also signed for J.E. Caldwell & Co. The serving spoon measures about 10 inches long, while the rest of the spoons are about 5 7/8 inches long. The total sterling silver weight is 317 grams or 11.2 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
