Description: Cleopatra - H. Rider Haggard presentation copy frim the library of Sir Alma Tandems London: Longmans and Company, 1889 CLEOPATRA; Being An Account Of The Fall And Vengeance Of Harmachis, The Royal Egyptian, As Set Forth By His Own Hand. By Sir H. Rider Haggard Illustrated by Woodville and Greiffenhagen Original beveled blue cloth stamped in gold. Wear on spine ends and board edges. Inner hinges neatly cracked and strong. Slight shelf slant to volume. Interior pages very good, without foxing. Tissue guard with edge chips. A strong solid copy. Errata slip bound in as well. This copy was in the possession of Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema with his bookplate on the front fixed endpaper. Opposite that is a paste-in attesting where this copy was originally purchased in 1913. On the verso is a bookseller’s pencil notations. The title page indicates this is a presentation presentation copy at the top edge. This inscription is not in Haggard’s hand as he also would have signed his name. It is most likely a copy presented by the publisher with a secretary’s handwriting - possibly, likely, to Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema but no way of knowing this as fact. A very good attractive copy.
