Description: For Sale: Crime And Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, published by Airmont Publishing Co, 1967. This is a previously owned paperback book in acceptable condition, purchased from a school library, with a stamp on the first page and sticker on front inside cover. The book cover shows folds, wrinkles and wear missing a corner at top front. Pages are clean with no markings or writing, but show discoloration (browning) from age. On top of closed book pages is written "52" in black marker. See photos. Taken from Wikipedia: Crime and Punishment focuses on the mental anguish and moral dilemmas of Rodion Raskolnikov, an impoverished ex-student in St. Petersburg who formulates and executes a plan to kill an unscrupulous pawnbroker for her cash. Raskolnikov argues that with the pawnbroker's money he can perform good deeds to counterbalance the crime, while ridding the world of a worthless vermin. He also commits this murder to test his own hypothesis that some people are naturally capable of such things, and even have the right to do them. Several time throughout the novel, Raskolnikov justifies his actions by comparing himself with Napoleon Bonaparte, believing that murder is permissible in pursuit of a high purpose. I have hundreds of books that have been handed down through generations, plus more recent books. Some are in great condition, some showing much use and some damage. A lot of the books came from homes, bay houses, or beach houses along the Gulf Coast, back before air conditioning, where there is high humidity and severe weather at times. Especially some of the older books from the early 1900's. We were taught that books are very valuable and should never be destroyed as long as they are still readable. Please read descriptions and look at photos to see what you will be getting. Ask questions if unsure. Details of Sale: All sales are "as is" so there should be no returns.
