It was recorded during his heyday in the 1970s in the room above the Village Gate, in Greenwich Village in New York City by George Klabin, a recording engineer for WKCR-FM. The well-defined sounds let in a little crowd noise for extra atmosphere and find Evans variously in a hurry on 'Yesterdays' and more lyrical on the likes of 'Someday My Prince Will Come,' 'California Here I Come' and 'Alfie'. It makes for an engaging set and a great addition to any jazz head's shelves, especially as this is a deluxe edition.
