The population was 44,678 at the 2020 census. The city forms the core of the Fond du Lac metropolitan statistical area, which includes all of Fond du Lac County and had 104,154 residents in 2020. Beginning in 1894, those wooden school buildings were replaced by larger brick buildings, and these newer brick schools were named after Presidents and other famous Americans. (Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, Grant, McKinley, Union/Wilson, Franklin, Cleveland, Bragg, Garfield) The Washington School, 233 Doty St. Fond du Lac, was constructed in 1896 at a cost of $20.000. It was razed in 1974. This Divided Back Era (1907-15) postcard is in good condition but shows some edge and corner wear.
