This is the self-titled Debut Album of Judee Sill, with backing vocals by Rita Coolidge, Clydie King, and Vanetta Fields. This is also the first LP released on then was then the newly formed Record Company by David Geffen - Asylum Records. The life of Judee herself was quite short (she passed away at age 35), and it would be an understatement to say she had a life that was full of turmoil. She learned keyboards playing piano in her father's Oakland bar, AND playing the organ in the church of the reform school where she was sent after committing a string of armed robberies in the San Fernando Valley of California. But her musical skills in both composition and performance earned her a place in the Folk Rock / Psychedelic Rock scene centered in Los Angeles during the 1960's and 1970's. That setting was also a locus for drugs and addiction. The resulting emotional instability, deteriorating physical health, and risky choices has led to personal crises for many of the talented musicians during that era.
