Sickles moving the 3rd Corps in the Gettysburg battle almost lost the battle for the Union Army. General Sickles did it all during the Civil War while in service of the Union Army. He Commanded regiments, brigades and divisions in the Union Army. He had the service of his career at Gettysburg commanding the 3rd Corps. He was breveted a Major General in the Union Army and years later was awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor for service at Gettysburg.
