Gorgeous Near-Mint Rookwood Arts & Crafts Vase "XVI" 1916 #1814 Midnight Blue

Description: Featured in this auction is a magnificent cabinet vase made by Rookwood Pottery. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, no cracks, light crazing and no repairs. This piece is 6-1/2" tall, 2-3/4" wide at the shoulder, and 1-1/2" wide at the top rim opening. The base of the pottery is stamped with the Rookwood Pottery flame mark, the shape number 1814 and the production year XVI (1916). There are a couple of very-shallow grinding slivers just at the base rim edge (as made). Stilt marks are visible. The vase features a taller, tapered cylindrical form with an arts-and-crafts motif of seahorses encircling the shoulder. This gorgeous glaze is a matte, lighter-blue underglaze (best visible on the base and just inside the top rim as glaze "misses") with a spectacular, darker midnight-blue overdrip. There are also some tiny glaze pops and pinholes. The vase has been gently used with some light mineral staining inside but is otherwise very clean. Check out all 9 photos!
