A legend in its own time, like the Brown Derby or the Pump Room, it attracted socialites, celebrities, and hard partiers that would surround the famous horseshoe bar three-deep.It was never about the food, although the New York Times's Florence Fabricant one wrote about "the well-done lamb served with mint jelly that matched the blazers worn by the gents" and the Irish soda bread. She wasn’t being kind. "It was quite a scene," recalls still-glamorous Louise Grunwald, widow of Ambassador Henry Grunwald and a pillar of New York and Southampton society. "Hot music, cold drinks, tons of action, and as I recall, good food. Or maybe not."
