IROQUOIS DIPLOMACY ON THE EARLY AMERICAN FRONTIER Timothy J. Shannon HC 2008 -10

Description: IROQUOIS DIPLOMACY ON THE EARLY AMERICAN FRONTIER by TIMOTHY J. SHANNON ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Hardcover no dust jacket; 260 pages; Size Approx. 5 1/4 X 7 3/4. Published by Viking, The Penguin Library of American Indian History; copyright 2008, First Edition. Details: "In the fourth title in The Penguin Library of American Indian History, Timothy J. Shannon tells the story of the most influential Native American confederacy of the colonial era. The Iroquois occupied a strategic region between Canada and New York and engaged in active trade and diplomacy with their colonial Dutch, French, and British neighbors. While they were famous as fierce warriors, it was actually their intercultural diplomacy that accounted for the span and endurance of their power in early America. By carefully maintaining their neutrality in the Anglo-French imperial wars in North America, they were able to claim an unrivaled influence in colonial America at a time when other Indian nations experienced dispossession and dispersal. Europeans who wanted to remain in the good graces of the Iroquois had to learn the ceremonies and the use of sacred objects that their diplomacy entailed. Shannon's portrayal contradicts the notion of the 'noble savage,' showing just how politically savvy--and at times treacherous--the Iroquois Nation was in the face of colonialism." Goodreads The book has a two-toned orange hard cover binding with metallic lettering on the spine. There is a map illustration in black and white. A nice addition for your collection of books! Condition: The book has a remainder mark at the lower edge; otherwise it is in nearly new condition with a firm binding and clean pages. * * * * * * * * Note: The letter/number at the end of the title line for this listing is just an inventory code for locating the book. ______________________________________ Free Domestic Economy Shipping! For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.Delivery:We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you.
