Description: A Rare The Life Guards Officers Forage Cap worn by: Major Nicholas Vincent Somerset Paravicini DL. Made by Herbert Johnson, of New Bond St. By appointment, hatters to the Late King George VI. NVSP initials in the inside of leather lining. Paravicini is the grandson of Charles Rudolf Paravicini, who served as Swiss Minister for the Court to St. Jamess from 1920 to 1939, and the former Elizabeth von Wattenwyl, daughter of Johann Ludwig von Wattenwyl and Countess Anne Emilie de Pourtales. His maternal grandfather was the famous writer W. Somerset Maugham CH. In April 1967, Paravicini married Mary Ann Parker Bowles, sister of Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles, former husband of HM Queen Camilla. His wedding reception was held at St. Jamess Palace and among the guests at the reception were HM Queen Elizabeth II, HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and HRH Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. They were subsequently divorced. Paravicini married secondly Susan Rose Phipps, a granddaughter of diplomat, Sir Eric Phipps GCB, and Major-General Simon Joseph Fraser, 14th Lord Lovat and 3rd Baron Lovat, KT. Paravicini was commissioned into The Life Guards on 20th December 1957. Among appointments he held were: Adjutant, The Life Guards, 19631966. A.D.C. to the Commander-in-Chief, Far East, 19661968. Officer Commanding, Household Cavalry Training Squadron, 19681969. He retired from the Army on 3rd February 1969. Moth damage. Misshaping to cap and peak. Grooves on peak. Wear.
