This classic features die-cast metal construction, a worm drive motor, an operating smoke unit, an operating headlight, a 3 position forward-neutral-reverse E-unit, metal side rods and metal wheels. The 671 was a mainstay of Lionel‘s line in the late 1940s. The tender features plastic construction, die-cast trucks, knuckle coupler and metal wheels & axles. A powerful and innovative model, the 6-8-6 was a Steam locomotive introduced during the 20th century. The 6-8-6 was powerful at high speeds, and was initially seen as a possible challenger to the Diesel locomotives that were beginning to dominate rail-yards in North America. While the design was loved by many, the 6-8-6 would ultimately present too many problems in both maintenance and performance before actually being scrapped for good by 1960. No known 6-8-6 models exist today as the focus greatly shifted to diesel models by the 1960s.
