Description: You are bidding on an original 1984 poster created by Maurice Sendak for an art exhibition hosted by City Gallery at Columbus Circle in New York entitled A Communion of Images by Artists of Books for Children. Mr. Sendak's theme "... And Peace Attend Thee" harks back to his 1962 Caldecott Honor picturebook Mr. Rabbit and the Lovely Present. I believe this poster to be extremely rare; I found no other like it anywhere on the internet and indeed found no reference whatsoever to the gallery exhibition itself. It appears to be a relatively obscure effort by Mr. Sendak and extremely uncommon. The signature which appears at the lower corner of the poster is a facsimile as far as I can tell. I acquired this from the estate of a NJ librarian who was very active in the activities of the American Library Association. This poster is huge, heavy, and apparently professionally framed. Overall measurements are 29" tall by 21" wide. I would grade condition to be very good: there's some puncturing of the paper backing on the frame, though the frame itself appears to be as new. The poster is beautiful, though very close examination may reveal a blemish or two. All in all an exceptional example of poster art from an acknowledged legend!
