Share the magic! ****** Back in the early 1990's, Tricks Co Ltd (Japan) put out a great "double" version of Goldstein's B'wave effect -- it was called Mental Transposition. About the same time, John Bannon also released his classic Twisted Sisters, which was very similar, but has Bannon's unique presentational context as well. Not exactly sure who was first, but suffice to say, this effect is so good, it deserved to be invented more than once! :-)Like most Tricks Co Ltd items, the original Mental Transpo trick has become very collectible and very hard-to-find. But recently, this new version has been released by Sam Dalal's magic company, so you won't need to break the bank to add this great packet effect to your performing repertoire. The cards supplied in this new re-make are well printed, and handle nicely.(NOTE: to be clear, this is NOT a Tricks Co, Ltd item -- it is a recent re-make of that trick.)The effect: you show two facedown packets of four cards each, one with blue backs and one with red backs. You explain that the packets include the Fours, and ask one spectator to name one of the black Fours and another spectator to name one of the red Fours. Let's say they name Clubs and Hearts. (There is no force, no equivoque -- they can choose any of the suits). You claim you will cause the two named Fours to change places. You spread the Blue packet, and there's one card faceup -- the Four of Clubs. You spread the red packet, and there in the middle is the faceup Four of Hearts. "They did somersaults as they changed places." To prove they really changed places, you turn the faceup cards facedown, and it is seen that they have opposite color backs to the rest of their packets -- they really did jump from the other packet! The kicker (a la Goldstein's B'wave) comes when you turn the remaining six cards face up to show they are all BLANK. The only two cards with faces are the freely chosen Fours!We all love B'wave. But by doing it with two packets, you get so much more magic, and you also can allow completely free choices of the suits.
