Description: MEXICAN DEER DANCE MASK, GUERRERO. VINTAGE AND OUTSTANDING!! Mask Only: 21.50 in. Mask/Beard: 33 in. Width:14 in. Depth: 4.5 in. An outstanding vintage Mexican Deer Dance Mask from Guerrero, Mexico. Hand carved, painted and the textured surface probably from repainting; with a natural fiber/hair beard, collected and attached at the bottom. The ears are leather. The last pic(sold) is an older but similar mask from the well-known and respected Mexican folk art collection of Fred and Margaret Schellenberg of San Antonio, Texas. My mask also has a diminuitive and detailed painting pattern in similar colors that usually suggests a family mask-making tradition or from a particular community or region. Notice the concave smoothing of the wood carving around the eyes; it’s intentional so the flesh around the eyes is not bruised. Also, the darker and smoother area on the left side. Usually caused by repeated use, contact of the oil and dirt and movement of the face against the wood. The inside of this mask is one of the best I’ve seen; no consistent and fake dark stain covering the whole surface. SHIPPING/ OTHER: The shipping price is ACTUAL, never inflated for profit.
