New York: Random House, 1977. Hardcover with paper dust jacket. Chapter Two ran for 879 performances on Broadway (1977-1979), with Judd Hirsch in the role of George Schneider. The play was nominated for 4 Tony Awards, including Best Play, with Ann Wedgworth winning the prize as Best Featured Actress. Hirsch was nominated for a Drama Desk award as best actor. Playwright SIMON (1927-2018) has won three Tony Awards for Best Play (The Odd Couple, 1965; Biloxi Blues, 1985; Lost in Yonkers, 1991), a Pulitzer Prize (Lost in Yonkers, 1991), two Emmys for his television writing and a 1978 Golden Globe for his screenplay for The Goodbye Girl. His other Tony-nominated Broadway plays include Barefoot in the Park (1964), Sweet Charity (1966), Plaza Suite (1968), Promises, Promises (1969), The Prisoner of Second Avenue (1972), The Sunshine Boys (1973) and They're Playing Our Song (1979), and the play featured here. He has scripted more than 20 films, adaptations of his plays and also original works like The Out of Towners, Murder by Death and The Goodbye Girl, receiving 4 Oscar nominations. His many honors include the Mark Twain Prize for American humor (2006). Stage, screen and TV actor JUDD HIRSCH is best known for his role as Alex Reiger on Taxi (1978-1982), for which he won two Emmy Awards (1981, 1983). More recently he starred as Allan Eppes, father of the brother crime-solvers on Numb3rs (2005-2010). Hirsch, who had made his Broadway debut in 1966's Barefoot in the Park, was equally successful on stage, winning Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Play for I'm Not Rappaport (1986) and Conversations with My Father (1992) and a nomination in the same category for Talley's Folly (1980, for which he won the 1979 Obie Award). Hirsch, who made his film debut in 1971 (Fury on Wheels), was also nominated for the 1980 Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for Ordinary People. His other film credits include Serpico (1973), Running on Empty (1988), Independence Day (1996), Man on the Moon (1999) and A Beautiful Mind (2001), and Hirsch has also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies. In addition to Taxi, Hirsch starred in several other TV series, including Dear John (1988-1992), for which he won a Golden Globe, and he has guest starred on a number of shows, from Medical Story (1975) to Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2003).
