If the DVDs are used then they could have scratches, smudges, damages to the cases or be ex-rental copies. All used DVDs have been checked to see if they aren't playable & if that's the case I throw them away. But sometimes some scratches still could mess with the quality of the dvd even if they are minor scratches.
