They are made of metal and can be mounted both vertically and horizontally, so they can be used both as bedside lamps/reading lamps and as decorative wall lamps. The front can be angled in both directions, making it possible to use them in several different ways. One of them has a spot of paint loss, and what appear to be glue residue along one corner.
