It was a scheme whereby evaders were concentrated in woodland camps likely to be out of the way of the Germans and of the expected Allied Advance, and there were to be three of these. The most successful of the three was at Freteval which became nicknamed "Operation Sherwood". M.1.9. chose Baron Leon de Blomaert, one of the leaders of the most successful escape route "Comete" to plan and organise the operation.
