Description: This lot includes over 50 years of railroad covers and cachets, ranging from the years 1934 to 1980. Each piece (22 different, 2 duplicates, plus one old flood photograph) is unique and features various denominations, colors, and designs, all centered around the topic of trains and railroads. These items have been previously owned and cancelled, some with a fancy cancel stamp to ensure their authenticity. While they are not certified, they still make for a great addition to any postal history collection. The lot comes from the state of Illinois, United States, and is a must-have for any train enthusiast. Many from the estate of the late Doug Warmon. These covers are primarily from the Midwest Railway Historical Society in Riverside Illinois. There are a few originals including 2 Burlington Pioneer Zephry first revenue run 1934, an L&N Louisville and Nashville 100th Anniversaryfrom 1950, and a few others from the 60s. Nickel Plate Road mike 624 was done by the Hammond Calumet Stamp Club in Indiana. Several show different commemorations with arrangements such as for the 100th Anniversary of the Fast Mail, the Colonel John Stevens -first locomotive in the United States, the John Bull Pennsylvania railroad centennial (done for Penn Central 1973), the opening of Hoosac Tunnel ,The last run HPO Highway Post Office and RPO Railway Post Office run, A John Henry memorial that was canceled on the the Chessie Steam Special in 1977. A truly nice eclectic group of items for those people interested in the railroading. The flood photograph is from Ridgeway Pennsylvania and is hand marked 1936 on the rear.
