Description: Ramekins or Custard Cups, Brown, Set of Three 3, Collctible Stoneware Baking Pottery Serving, Old Antique Farmhouse Cottage Cabin Tableware These three Ramekins or Custard Cups are not the same in size or color. However, I’m selling them together because my Grandmother used them as a set and they like living together. The smallest ramekin: o Measures about 2.25 inches tall, just a little over 3 inches in diameter at the top and about 2 inches in diameter at the bottom. oIt is one of the lighter brown oThe bottom is not glazed. oThere is some discoloring and crazing on the cream-colored inside. The medium ramekin: oMeasures about 2.5 inches tall, is about 3.25 inches in diameter at the top, and about 2 inches in diameter at the bottom. oIt is the darkest of the 3 ramekins. oThere are some minor chips on the unglazed bottom. oThe white inside is in very good condition. The largest ramekin: o Measures almost 2.5 inches tall, is between 3.25 and 3.5 inches in diameter at the top, and about 2 inches in diameter at the bottom. oIt does not quite match the smaller ramekin but it is one of the lighter ones. oThere is some crazing on the outside and inside. oThere is a significant crack close to the bottom, outside. The crack does not go through to the inside. oThere is another crack on the inside from the rim to almost the bottom. The crack does not go through to the outside. oThe inside shows the most discoloration. A ramekin was most often used to bake and serve individual portions of dishes like Pudding, Crème Brûlée, Soufflé, or Custard. They could equally be used to bake an egg or serve dips. While I do not know the exact age, I know these ramekins to be quite old; likely the late 1800s or early 1900s. There is no maker mark on any of them. They could be early Weller or Hall. They were used at my grandparent's Cape Cod summer cottage where Grandmother served, almost daily, individual portions of bread pudding to Grandfather, herself, and my Mother. Bread spoiled easily back then, especially at a summer cottage. So bread pudding was my Grandmother's favorite way to turn stale bread into dessert. She often served it for breakfast. So these ramekins show the wear. While these ramekins know rustic cottage life, they would be equally comfortable in your farmhouse or your cabin. Use them as ramekins or upcycle them into small nuts or candy serving dishes, small candle holders, or small plant holders on your kitchen windowsill. I'm sure there are many more uses for your rustic decor.
