Rare! Manley Reference Gold Microphone with Built in Pre Amp

Description: This is an extremely rare custom large diaphragm tube microphone with a built in tube preamp in excellent condition that is no longer in production. It is however still fully serviceable by Manley Labs. David Manley had an aversion to transformers and was a firm believer in the old school theory of less is more. He designed these for his own personal use and utilized them in his legendary direct to disc recordings, which continue to be some of the most pristine sound recordings ever made. I had several of these built (with capsules handpicked by EveAnna Manley) and have used them in my production and film work as my “magic ingredient”. They are excellent in a wide variety of situations including vocals, acoustic guitars, pianos and full orchestral sessions, anything where you want organic clarity and beauty in a track. I have had consistent positive comments on my work from artists and directors which I directly attribute to my Manleys. In fact when I first demoed a pair of these, a director I had worked with for years piped up at a mixing session about the "amazing sound" of the cue I used them on and asked me how I did it. He had never commented on anything with regards to sound before and I immediately purchased my first pair. I have a long list of credits that include among others George Harrison, Sting, Dave Matthews Band and Paul McCartney. I am finally cutting back on my work load and am reducing my mic locker. I will always however, keep at least one of these as my go to “magic ingredient”. This is my last and favorite one. Hard to imagine but I’m just not recording much any more.FROM THE MANUAL;Custom versions for field use containing the ENTIRE MICROPHONE PREAMPLIFIER are also available to special order. These custom Mics are transformerless and are unbalanced at the outputs but will drive low impedance loads and long cables. Pin Out of this transformerless UNbalanced custom version is: pin 1 & 3 ground, pin 2 hot. (I had them rewired by the factory to pin 3 hot) There is a small control at the base of the mic that sets the output level. We suggest that the input stage receiving the Mic be capable of variable gain of at least plus and minus 24 dB for general purpose use. We recommend our STEREO 10 dB LIMITER / COMPRESSOR for these mics as it has 24 dB available gain, transformer balanced inputs and outputs and transparent limiting if needed. We can build a custom unit with M/S decoded outputs if ordered as such.
