Excellent condition soft cover. Reprints the original 1962 comic book story and front cover, but with new ads on the inside front, inside back and back cover. Modern UK reprint of the 1962 British Classics Illustrated edition of DOCTOR NO. The original 1960s American publisher of Classics Illustrated chose not to include DOCTOR NO in their line because it was more violent and racy than what Classics Illustrated generally published. Instead it was reprinted by DC Comics as SHOWCASE #43, but with some art and dialogue censored (such as making Quarrel white), plus the printing of the art in SHOWCASE #43 is mediocre. This modern reprint looks infinitely better than the American SHOWCASE #43. This comic isn't really an adaptation of the Ian Fleming novel, but rather of the James Bond movie and it even uses likenesses of the actors who played James Bond (Sean Connery) and Doctor No (Joseph Wiseman). It is a very condensed version of the film as it comprises only 32 pages. This has clearly been reprinted from the original 1962 British comic book but the artwork is clear and sharp, not fuzzy like some reprints scanned from old comics are, and a lot better looking than SHOWCASE #43. Compare the sample page below to the same page in SHOWCASE #43 and prepare to be shocked. Vintage copies of the original 1960s British/Australian edition sell for around $300 and they are rarely offered. Buyer pays for media mail or priority mail (mailed in a box).
