Listed items will not be marked down during the listing duration. Berwick is also known as Diana. When patterns have more than one name, it usually indicates different ways of selling them. The pattern first came out in 1904 and was made for about 15 years. This design is very high style Art Nouveau, a fantasy of poppies spilling down the handle in asymmetrical fashion. Berwick is the name of an English Castle. Diana is the Roman Goddess of the hunt. Somehow both names are applied to this pattern. The terms dinner and luncheon as applied to silverware cause some confusion. They refer to different sizes of flatware, specifically knives and forks. The dinner is the larger of the two, the luncheon is about three fourths the size of the dinner. The reason for these differences is that when water had to be pumped by hand, and wood chopped to heat the water, then dish washing only happened once a day. Thus the household needed two distinct sets of flatware. Forks only came into common use in the 1840's, and the idea of having two forks per person was one of great luxury. The 10 hollow handle dinner forks offered here measure about 10". These are not pieces of new silver. They show patina of as much as almost 120 years of careful use. There is a light and small B monogram on the handles; this is very faint in the pics. The blades are in fine shape with the exception of one, which has a small scratched place on the flat of the blade. There is no silver loss. The pattern is crisp and clear. These knives have been well cared for and carefully used. I polish all silver before listing on eBay. Please email with any questions before bidding. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE AUCTION DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY. BY BIDDING YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY MY TERMS OF SALE including the cost and method of shipping and my return policy. I welcome international bidders, but remember that shipping charges can be high. Ask before you bid. Winning bidder to pay shipping charges unless otherwise specified. I ship by United States Postal Service only. I ship all silverware via USPS Priority Mail in boxes. I NEVER ship silverware in envelopes. I insure ALL shipping, as I sell old and scarce items that cannot be easily replaced. Domestic shipping charge for 1 pound or under is now $8.10 which is Priority Mail. International shipping charges vary widely, and I now must use only International Priority shipping, in order to be able to insure the package, purchase a tracking number and proof of delivery, all of which protect both buyer and seller. I now print shipping labels online to keep shipping costs down as much as possible, so I can ship only to the buyers confirmed address. I regret that I can no longer ship gifts directly to the recipient. Payment in US funds only, and I can accept only eBays payment system. I must receive payment in full within 7 days after the end of auction or a store purchase . Due to misuse of a former return policy, I will no longer accept returns. I will of course take responsibility for items that arrive damaged or if there is a serious error in the listing. See item description for payment & shipping methods.
