Description: As of the time of this listing, we are the only Seller to have two Super Wide Selsi 7x,50s for sale: this nice ten degree and an even wider, and scarcer, eleven degree. And we are also the only ones we know of who service them so that you receive a clean, well aligned, and easy to operate vintage optic. We refer to them as Super Wide simply because anything over eight degrees field of view (FoV) deserves to be called such. It seems there was no industry standard and importers and/or manufacturers chose whatever they wanted to describe their offerings. For instance, we've seen early ten degree 7x,35s labeled Super Wide when later models offered 12, 12.5 and even 13 degree fields of views. And even those were simply called Extra Wide in most cases. For the size and power (50mm aperture and 7X) ten and eleven degree wide is amazing and hence the well deserved designation. Just like the eleven degree Selsi, this ten degree is made by JB-56, HIYOSHI, who also produced The Most Beautiful binocular ever manufactured: the magnificent Sears gator skinned 7x,35 12.5 degree. And just like those super Wides, this model employs a separate field lens mounted to the prism mounting plate in order to achieve such mind blowing views. Called a "weak focal reducing lens" they are also found mounted to the rear of the ocular assemblies on other models such as the Tasco 124 and similar eleven degree wide Jason branded binos. Cleaned of film and spots the, probably hand finished, BK-7 prisms produce those diamond shaped grey borders around the exit Pupils that completely disappear when one jams their own ocular orbs up against the ocular lenses of this old bino. The way they were meant to be used and without spectacles! Be prepared to wipe eyelash grease off lenses at the end of a session. We who love these old wide angles realize and live with this. Especially on ones that use the lower index BK-7s for prism glass. Which is the overwhelming majority since Bak-4s would've raised the price to consumers. As it was back then, binos were NOT cheap consumer goods the way they are today. There was a Luxury tax imposed and even "affordable" models cost the equivalent of several hundred dollars in today's badly depreciated currency. So if you wonder Why one sees, for instance, scores of well made Tasco 118s and 116s for sale (eleven and ten degree 7x,35s, respectively) for every Tasco 110, a top-notch 12.5 degree 7x,35 with Bak-4s, here is your answer. The less costly tens and elevens were snapped up by your average working class Joe while the more wealthy invested in the best they could buy back then. And just like today a big difference in price point doesn't necessarily mean a huge jump in optical performance. Those BK-7 loaded models gave a lifetime and more of sterling performance and, once serviced, now offer several more decades -even centuries - of use. And remember: nothing even close to such wide angles is being produced today. Focus controls are cleaned and lubed using NYE synthetic damping grease for smooth, easy use. Entire chassis conditioned with an automotive grade product meant for rubber and vinyl. Formerly age welded eye cups loosened so when removed younger the widest possible views. Vintage Binolix branded case included along with gold toned Selsi ocular lens caps and strong black vinyl carry strap held on using brite metal barbell keepers. Case missing its carry strap but easily replaced. Satisfaction or request a return and cheerful refund within three days of receipt, please.
