Description: girl, dress, railroad, collage, color, nostalgia, Giclée print TITLE: SHOW OFF Image size measures 10" x 10". Color ink on Matte Art paper This is an authorized Giclée print, mounted on mat board, made from the original piece on canvas, which measures 12" x 12." The original artwork is a mixed-media collage incorporating photographs, acrylic paint, tissue paper, and other bits of paper. I used to show extensively in galleries throughout the US, but paused my art career to raise children, and am just now getting back into art-making. Unframed, will ship flat.(Ruler in the photograph is not included in the purchase, it's to show the size.) My work contains images of figures to which I relate with a sense of nostalgia and familiarity. Many of my prints contain parts of old negatives shot by my relatives in the 1940s. I feel that using old negatives affords me the opportunity to acknowledge the traditions and gifts previous generations have made to my life as an artist. Mixed Media technique and artist statement:I enjoy the technical possibilities of combining painting marks made by hand and images delineated by light during a photographic process. The point of my work is not to try to make paintings look like photographs or to make photographs look like drawings, but to have a subtle blending of the two. A successful image will effectively use the best qualities of both painting and photography. My artwork is more of a spiritual practice than the mere production of images. Often, the figures in my work bring me along on their own journey, unveiling layers of meaning as quickly as I can apply new ones with my paintbrush. The process of creating each piece is a tug-of-war between my efforts to organize a composition and the image's determination to realize itself. I incorporate a sense of transparency and of movement in the figures in my work. The finished images evoke a feeling of evanescence: something physically present at one point is now disappearing. Common to all of my work is the idea that something is happening in the image, but it's completely okay not to know the specifics; the ever-changing nature of our existence doesn't have to be scary. The physical mark-making combined with the realism inherent in the photographic process is intended to raise a question about which parts of the image more closely represent reality. Through the double exposure and double print approach, I would like to suggest what I believe to be the fundamental idea behind the family snapshot-- people, things, and feelings exist for a second or a fraction of a second and then are gone. Time moves too fast to capture, even with a camera. From smoke-free home. See pictures as they are considered part of the description and I have attempted to document any flaws. I mostly sell collectibles on this site, but have listed some of my artwork as well: See my other items!
