Description: DC COMICS | THE NEW 52! DC Comics All-New Cinematic DC UNIVERSE Speculative Key The DC Comics Movie Universe that fans have known for the last decade, better known as the DCEU, met its official terminus on 25 December 2023 with the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) starring JASON MOMOA as the titular Aquaman. From this point on, any new cinematic offering from DC Comics will belong to director JAMES GUNN'S all-new Cinematic DC Universe, a huge endeavor that will officially begin with the release of his Superman: Legacy in 2025. Gone will be the storylines, characters and actors of the DCEU -- or at least most of them, as Momoa has hinted and teased his interest in - - and likely casting as -- LOBO for the forthcoming new DCU. Momoa is a perfect candidate for Lobo, of course, and far more than he ever was for Aquaman, and hints from Momoa and other inside sources have suggested that Lobo's introduction in the new DCU would come sooner rather than later. That said, the question of where Lobo's First Appearance might occur looms large. Superman: Legacy is already full of characters, and one would suspect the next suspected DC movie in Gunn's line-up, The Authority, likely is as well, given the movie is about an all-new superhero team. Moreover, no where in The Authority comic book canon is Lobo a member or even mentioned. STORMWATCH, originally a WildStorm Comics' super-hero team and the one from which the members of THE AUTHORITY abdicated to form their own group, became the name of The Authority as of DC's line-wide relaunch, The New 52!, in 2011. The newly renamed group counted among its number several of The Authority including MIDNIGHTER, THE ENGINEER and APOLLO as well a few longtime DC heroes and former JUSTICE LEAGUERS like THE MARTIAN MANHUNTER. Late in its 30 issue run, Lobo, the space-faring anti-hero and sometimes DC villain and bounty hunter, meets and joins Stormwatch, remains with them until the conclusion of the series. Given the less-than-overwhelming reception of several of the DC The New 52! titles at the time, many of the series that were part of the initial 2011 relaunch saw ever decreasing print runs and most were cancelled within 2-3 years after their debut. Stormwatch was no exception to this, and thus Lobo's addition to the team should be considered a relative "deep-cut", as few eyes were on the title during its final months of publication. Nevertheless, Lobo's little-known membership is DC canon, and should the rumor mill hold true, where Jason Momoa's Lobo will debut in the new DCU is now all-but-certain.
