Description: Studio Pottery, Doug Hively - Porcelain Potter, 7.5” Crock or Vase, 2qt, Slip-Trailed Glaze, Oregon, "As Is" This auction is for a beautiful studio pottery 2-quart "squared" round porcelain crock in a glossy, speckled silver-grey with tan and blue drips and white, tactile slip-trailed designs. Photos cannot do justice.Being sold "as-is" at a reduced price due to a hairline in the bottom, on the inside, that barely runs through to the outside (see last photo for inside and photo of bottom at 8:00). This flaw is not visible when in use, but item will not hold water and is not recommended for food use. It's an impressive piece for holding utensils, silk flowers, fragrant potpourri or other non-food items.Black stamp on the unglazed bottom reads, "Hively Pottery, Monmouth, Or."The porcelain body has a flared rim and a gracefully squared-round shape with a tactile slip-trailed design that is different on each of the four sides. Glazes are glossy inside and out.Colors are richer than photos can show. Some white spots are camera glare. Made in Monmouth, Oregon, date unknown.Measures 7 1/2" high, 5 1/4" wide, has a 5" diameter flared rim and a 4" diameter base. Weighs 2 pounds before packaging. Aside from the hairline flaw noted above, this item is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or surface wear. There is shelf wear to the unglazed bottom. Any other irregularities, besides the hairline, would be from the handmade process and not damage of any kind. Item will not hold water and is not recommended for liquids or food use. Doug Hively is a well-known Monmouth, Oregon porcelain potter and workshop instructor of over 25 years. Can't confirm, but it appears he sold his Oregon studio in 2007 and relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where his pottery continues to evolve and impress many loyal and new admirers of his work.
